Holy Island - Lindisfarne Northumberland

Holy Island Northumberland

The close of the year would not be complete without the photographic pilgrimage to Holy Island which a good bunch of friends and I make. This year was huge fun, 22 of us ploughing through the mudsilt in chase of a dawn which turned out cloudless and brief... yet not to be missed. In balance with that was the evening blue calm which so blankets the island in a spiritual haven.

SeaChange NE Book
25th October 2012
Update: October 25
The Seachange book sales have gone so well we have had to go to second edition. This is such good news for the good causes for which the venture took place. Signing events by the producers took place early October too. I was delighted that Waterstones chose one of my shots from the book to blow up large as the publicity stand for their local interest section. At only £16.95 and approx 300 pages of solid images, little text,it's a huge coffee table book and would make a wonderful Christmas gift.
SeaChange NE Book is released 12 March 2012 !
For the past year I’ve been working to support Sea-Change NE, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, to assist the collation of the exciting new book which is launched soon. The book celebrates our wonderful North-eastern coastline, its history and preservation, its people and heritage,...and cherishes its future.
Most importantly our young folk have contributed to its making with 12 schools each leading a monthly themed chapter. There are writings, poems, drawings and some very special and honest photographs by a wide range of local people including fellow photographers from our local groups. As you flip through the book there is a lovely feel in the colour changes of the different months of the year swimming past you.
Those who have contributed have been invited to a thank you RSVP launch evening on Monday, 12th March 2012, following which the book will be available on sale in local bookstores and online. Initial supplies after 12 March will be in Blackwells, Haymarket, Newcastle upon Tyne.
This venture is so worthwhile and so important for future generations. I hope you will help spread the word and give it as much publicity as possible.

Amateur Photography magazine/Olympus winner
17th October 2012

Latest news...
Amateur Photography Magazine / Olympus have generously afforded me the winner of their reader Dunstanburgh Peace Camp event where a bunch of us had great fun trialling Olympus cameras. I'm delighted to have received the prize of an Olympus SZ-31MR... which with its amazing 24zoom has already had its inaugural outing at the deer park around Fountains Abbey.
The magazine issue date Saturday 20 October 2012 has a two page spread pp20-21 showing also my good friends and fellow image-makers James Thow and Dru Dodd. We had the opportunity to play with various cameras including the Pen E-P3 and the impressive mirrorless four thirds system OM-D E-M5.
My winning shot turned out to be the mono version of portraits taken of the very photogenic model Cali (pseudonym Mamselle Coco).
Colour versions too are found in my People gallery.
The Peace camp itself was inspired by the excellent actress Fiona Shaw, comprising a soundscape of poetry thrumming through the evening air dusk till dawn whilst an installation of small semi spherical tents glowed along the wonderful Dunstanburgh coastline. All in all a fine adventure...
